Steve is a highly versatile director / senior manager with a focus on sales & business development strongly supported by a successful track record across a wide range of functional areas including manufacturing, design, sales, commercial, marketing and business development.

Also experienced in the management of corporate acquisition and exit planning and the MBO process.

Steve formed Crucial Edge in March 2012 in response to a demand from smaller businesses seeking to take the next step in their growth strategy.
 
Steve has 20 years management experience in the defence and security sector, initially in manufacturing and operations management roles and later in General Management positions before specialising in Sales & Marketing and Business Development. In 1996 Steve successfully managed the acquisition and integration of two businesses on behalf of MBM.
 
In 2000, Steve was a member of the Management Buy-Out team that acquired MBM Technology Ltd from Morgan Crucible, taking on the role of Sales Director. The team successfully sold MBM to EDO Corporation in September 2003.
 
After the sale of MBM to EDO Corporation, Steve joined Marshall Specialist Vehicles as Business Development Director until joining the Cobham Group in 2007 as Sales & Marketing Director for the Defence Communications business.
 
Steve is experienced in the management of defence exports, and in the establishment of overseas routes to markets. He has worked internationally in the United States, South Africa, Europe, Middle East and then Asia Pacific region.

Steve has established a successful track record in:

  • Achieving top line revenue growth through the development of effective routes to market in UK and overseas. Knowledgeable on Defence Exports and on legislation regarding overseas advisors and agents.

  • Providing direction through the development of a clear vision and strategic plan, and implementing strategy through management against clear objectives and timescales.

  • Establishing the appropriate policies and procedures to maintain control of a business, from sales order processing to after sales support.

  • Ensuring understanding and 'buy-in' from employees, shareholders, customers and suppliers alike, through excellent communications skills.

  • Commercial management, drafting & negotiating a wide range of contractual agreements.

  • Successfully presenting business plans to shareholders and potential investors and achieving buy-in from stakeholders at all levels.

  • Coaching and mentoring staff to achieve to the best of their abilities and to contribute effectively to the team.
